PRESCRIPTIONS

Some general points:

  • Some medication is cheaper over the counter.

  • It might be cheaper for you to pay an annual prescription charge which allows you to obtain all your drugs for a fixed fee. Forms are available at reception.

  • Some medication is not funded by the NHS. You will need to pay the surgery for writing the prescription and the pharmacy for the drug itself.

  • Medication for 'just in case' situations whilst on holiday are not funded by the NHS. A private prescription can be provided.

  • Medication is prescribed by generic name in general ( i.e. non brand name). There are a few exceptions (epilepsy medication, contraception etc). The pharmacy can therefore dispense any manufactures generic drug. This can mean that the drug and packaging can look different although the active ingredient is the same.
